Elbląg, Poland - on the 9 of March, military picnics took place in 20 Polish cities on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Poland in NATO. Elbląg was one of those cities. It was a great occasion to see among others: military equipment, equipment of the Engineering Patrol and shows performed by children and youth of Military Clubs and the Youth Culture Center in Elbląg. In the special zone for the youngest everyone could overcome the obstacle course or paint the face with masking colors. Everyone could eat military pea soup. During all picnics at 13.00 the flags were raised and the anthems of the Republic of Poland and NATO were played.
The main organizer of the picnic was the Command Support Regiment of the Multinational Division North East (MND-NE). The representatives of the MND-NE, units and institutions of the Elbląg Garrison and the 9th Armored Brigade also took part in its preparation. The Vice-Voivod of Warmia and Mazury Sławomir Sadowski and soldiers from the member countries of NATO serving in the MND-NE also took part in the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Poland in NATO.
NATO was established in 1949. At present, it has 29 members, the youngest of them is Montenegro. Poland joined the Alliance on the 12 of March, 1999 along with the Czech Republic and Hungary.
