Elbląg, Poland - the establishment of the Multinational Division North East Headquarters is a consequence of the NATO Summit in Warsaw in July 2016, when decisions about the "enhanced forward military presence" on the Alliance's eastern flank were made. It consists of four battalion-seized battle groups deployed in the Baltic States and Poland.
During the Division Headquarters soldiers' welcome ceremony, Minister Antoni Macierewicz indicated - It may be said that the plan, with which we struggled throughout last years, which merely 18 months ago was not clear and not convincing - that joint NATO forces will be deployed on eastern flank and will defend each European nation, not only selected ones; that this plan will be accomplished in a year.-
The ceremony ended the process of achieving Initial Capability by the Headquarters soldiers. On 3rd July, in the Old Town of Elbląg, Commander of the Multinational Division North-East Brig. Gen. Krzysztof Motacki said: - Mission has been accomplished, Initial Capability has been achieved - and the Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command (JFC Brunssum), Gen. Salvatore Farina, assessed that the celebration in Elbląg showed the importance of international cooperation. As he said - the most important is the motto "one for all, all for one", because NATO must show unity, solidarity and determination while defending its borders.-
Currently, the soldiers of the Division Headquarters are preparing to achieve Full Capability, which will take place in the second half of the next year.
